Great Wall Swingout
The Swing Beijing club organizes the 3-day Great Wall Swingout, a festival for swing dancers, held every year in April. The festivities include the signature event, swing dancing on the Great Wall of China.
Dance enthusiasts get into the swing of things at one of the world’ Seven Wonders, the Great Wall of China, during the annual Great Wall Swingout. Each April during the Great Wall Swingout, swing dancers attend workshops and groove to swing bands during this three night dance event.
Dancing participants from all over the world travel to China to participate in the Great Wall Swingout. Past countries represented have included the United States, China, Russia, Sweden, Vietnam and South Korea.
Dancing on the Great Wall of China
The signature event of the Great Wall Swingout takes place on Sunday when swing dancers gather for a show of fancy footwork on the Great Wall of China – Badaling. The entire day is spent hiking and dancing on the wall.
A World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1987, the Great Wall of China is one of the greatest wonders of the world. Dating back more than 2,000 years, the Great Wall stretches east to west of China 5,500 miles (8,851.8 kilometers) through desserts, grasslands, mountains and plateaus.
Events
The three-day festivities comprise Dancing on the Great Wall of China (including bus and cable car); 6 hours of workshops or Beijing bike tour; three Chinese dinners (such as Chinese dumpling dinner); three dance parties with two live bands; and an authentic Burlesque show. Optional day trips, such as touring Tianjin, are also available.
